Step-by-Step Instructions for Creamy Broccoli Casserole
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, melted butter, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Melt unsalted butter in a large pot over medium heat and sauté minced garlic for about 1 minute.
  4. Sprinkle plain flour into the pot, stirring constantly for about a minute. Gradually whisk in half of the milk until smooth.
  5. Incorporate the remaining milk and chicken broth, cooking for 4-5 minutes until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses until melted.
  7. Fold the tender broccoli into the cheese sauce until well-coated.
  8. Pour the mixture into a casserole dish and sprinkle with the reserved topping.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
