Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together BBQ sauce and beef broth until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Make the Dry Rub: Mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.
  3. Season the Brisket: Pat the brisket dry and coat with the dry rub, pressing it in thoroughly.
  4. Sear the Brisket: Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the brisket for 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Arrange in the Slow Cooker: Layer sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker, then place the seared brisket on top.
  6. Add the Sauce Mixture: Pour the BBQ sauce and beef broth mixture over the brisket, cover, and set to LOW for 8-10 hours.
  7. Finish and Serve: Transfer the brisket to a cutting board, rest for 15-20 minutes, then slice or shred and return to the slow cooker.
