For the Cheese Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Butter Can replace with olive oil.
  • 2 tbsp Flour Cornstarch or gluten-free flour can be used.
  • to taste Paprika & Dry Mustard Optional seasoning additions.
  • 1.5 cups Shredded Cheese Use freshly shredded for best melt.
For the Macaroni Layer
  • 2 cups Macaroni Cook until al dente.

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Transfer meat mixture to a greased baking dish, pressing down evenly, and bake for about 20 minutes.
  4. Cook macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
  5. In a saucepan, melt butter, stir in flour, then whisk in milk until sauce thickens; add seasonings and cheese until melted.
  6. Mix cooked macaroni with cheese sauce, then pour over baked meatloaf.
  7. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top and return to oven. Bake for an additional 25 minutes.
